Elegant Holiday Tables That Will Make Your Guests Openly Gasp

It’s easy to get into a holiday table rut, isn’t it? We use the same place settings, the same China, and the same flatware year in and year out. The holiday table setting becomes another tradition that comforts guests with its familiarity. Still, it can be fun to switch things up a bit, and it’s not difficult to incorporate small, elegant changes that will have a dramatic impact. Here are a few ideas to inspire you…

Soft colored gourds

White is the new orange when it comes to pumpkins and gourds. This table setting is the textbook definition of farmhouse elegance. The washed barn board serves as the perfect rustic (but muted) backdrop to soft gray placemats with dark gray accents, white plates, and dark gray napkins. But where this holiday setting really shines is in its elegant simplicity. Several white and soft-colored gords have been placed in the center, accented by a dark green squash, sage, pinecones, pillar candles, and a few whisps of wheat. A splash of color could easily be added to this by arranging a few miniature orange pumpkins in place of the pinecones.

Copper, sprigs, and fruit

This is a simply elegant tablescape that nearly anyone can pull off! Seeded eucalyptus is effortlessly arranged on a plain table runner and accented with apples. Visually delicious! If you don’t have any seeded eucalyptus on hand, harvest some Montana foliage – sage accented with sprigs of wheat, juniper boughs, or strands of hops (if you happen to be friends with someone who grows them!) The candleholder’s touch of copper makes this a masterpiece – copper is a great way to dress up your Thanksgiving table. You can take this look one step further by having copper mugs at each place setting. Brilliant!

Fearless Mixing and Matching

This tablescape is breathtaking – the predominance of white and green add elegance, while sprigs of red and the warm glow of candles add festive delight. The use of mismatched plates and mugs gives this table setting charm. This design would be easy to pare back for those who prefer a more simplistic look and feel by positioning one floral arrangement in the middle, framed with candle sticks of descending heights. The eucalyptus could easily be swapped out for pine boughs and sprigs of holly.

Cozy and Classy

For those who think a monochromatic color scheme is not festive, this tablescape begs to differ. Several large, black and white checkered napkins become a table runner under a gorgeous swag of greenery, accented with ornamental bulbs and tapered candles. Black and white polka-dot ribbons accessorize the plates, accompanied by alternating reindeer and geometric napkin rings. A light fixture like the one featured in this setting is easy to embellish with greenery, ribbons, bulbs, and foils stars. A captivating image of a reindeer pulling a sled as the background for your table setting, as in this example, helps set the tone for this cozy arrangement.
