The castle and hamlet (borgo) have their origins in the 12th century when they were owned by the Sienese noble family Pannocchieschi d'Elci. At one time the property was also owned by Cosimo de Medici. Today it comprises the castle and hamlet all together and 10 country houses in different places on 683 hectares of land. The land is made up of 450 hectares of woodlands and 233 hectares of arable land. It would be ideal for walks in the woods, hunting, mushroom picking and the arable land would be perfect for horses with ample room for barns and boxes.The total development area for the all the buidings is 15,858 sqm with the possibility of expansion to 16,668 sqm. There is a proposal subject to final planning permission for approval to restore and build an exclusive hotel/apartment/residences, with villas/country houses and vineyards. The potential five-star luxury boutique hotel of 80/90 rooms would have shared amenities including a spa, gym, indoor and outdoor pools, restaurants, a medieval church and an astronomical observatory. The planning proposal can be modified to accommodate a much larger hotel with different sized rooms if needed.
