Winter Adventures in Missoula

As the days get longer and the weather colder, Missoula comes alive with evening festivities. There is no shortage of activities to keep you warm on these cold winter nights with dance, lights, and ice skating. The Garden City Ballet presents The Nutcracker

For over 30 years, the people of the Missoula area have embraced the winter season with The Nutcracker. Produced by the Garden City Ballet, The Nutcracker is performed just three nights a season and enlivens many as they prepare for the holidays. This production is so well known that families, dancers, and guest stars such as Ashley Hagler from the Salzburg Ballet, come to dance for the Missoula community year after year. To ensure your seat be sure to purchase tickets in advance since seating is limited. Do not miss the Missoula City Symphony and its annual winter show if you enjoy performance art. This year the Missoula City Symphony streamed its winter show ringing in the holiday season with classics like Song of the Bells and Irving Berlin’s Christmas.

Holidays at the ZACC

With the different holidays that fall around this time of year, you can expect to participate in more than one creative outlet in the Missoula area. The ZACC (Zootown Art Community Center) invites all artists, young and old, to patriciate in a paint-your-own-pottery activity complete with special Santa delivery. To participate, order your pottery online with the ZACC and have your very own piece of pottery. Some of the options include vases, salt and pepper shakers, and soap dispensers. Santa will deliver these items to your home along with the paints. Paint your pieces and deliver them to the ZACC to have them fired and ready for a beautiful holiday gift. Save time for the Parade of Lights that adorns Higgins Street. Sip hot chocolate as you walk through Downtown Missoula enjoying the winter wonderland that surrounds you. End you walk in the downtown area enjoying the Public Art by Tagg Peterson (Crossings) and taking in the lights on the City of Missoula Christmas Tree.

First Night 2022

Each of these events is held at the start of each winter season in Missoula, and you can anticipate enjoying holiday and seasonal fun throughout December. Missoula begins the month with a performance by the Missoula City Symphony and ends it with one of the premier highlights of the season, First Night Missoula. This event is held each year on December 31st, and helps Missoula welcome the new year. Arts Missoula produces first Night Missoula. With the purchase of a $10 button, you can enjoy over 20 different events throughout downtown Missoula. These family-friendly events create a unique way to welcome the new year.
