Goodbye Summer, Hello Fall: It’s time to get ready for party times!
The lazy days of summer are gone. There’s a new crisp nip in the air and time for a new season. As the leaves begin to fall and crunch under foot and the days get shorter, that means one thing—indoor social time with friends. Often times, friend gathering happens on short notice. But even though there may be little time to really “do it up,” you always want to be prepared.
Here are a few “short notice” delicious and decorating ideas to make and share with friends that give the appearance of preparation. Look awesome with very little prep time. That’s the trick!
COCKTAILS. These delicious cocktails are just plain fun and easy to create.
During the fall, apples are plentiful at farms and Farmer’s Markets. Check out the Missoula Farmer’s Market for fresh, crisp apples and fresh pressed apple cider. Then make these delicious…
- 2 tbsp. sugar
- 1 tbsp. ground cinnamon
- 1 c. apple cider
- 1 bottle champagne
On a small plate, combine sugar and cinnamon. Dip champagne flutes in water to wet the rims, then dip in cinnamon sugar mixture. Fill champagne flutes 1/4 full with apple cider, then top off with champagne.
Check out the Jug Tree in Bigfork for a wide array of bourbons.
- 3 scoops vanilla ice cream
- 1/2 c. milk
- 2 oz. bourbon
- 1/2 c. chopped pecan pie
In a blender, combine vanilla ice cream, milk, bourbon, and chopped pecan pie. Blend until desired consistency. (Add more ice cream if mixture is too thin, more milk if it’s too thick). Pour into glass and garnish with crumbled pecan pie.
For Beer Lovers
From the Flathead Brewery in Missoula, Bigfork and Woods Bay, try the Brewer’ Sour Series…brewed with wild yeast strains and bacteria that create a genuinely unique and crisp flavor profile.
DÉCOR. Bring in the fall with a little glitter, glue and candles. You’ll set just the right festive ambiance.
Apple Candles Holders
Choose green apples and core out just enough out of the top to hold a taper or votive candles. Line up on a silver tray for even more dazzle.
Spray pumpkins white. Use spray glue and spray the bottom and/or top of each one. Dip in glitter. Voila!
SNACKS. No need for chips and dip. These easy treats are table ready and not at all tricky!
Easy to make, serve and eat…on a toothpick! Skewer sliced English cucumbers, chunky feta cheese, pitted Kalmata olives and halved grape tomatoes. Drizzle the assembled skewers with olive oil and sprinkle ground pepper over them. Pair with a sparkling wine like NV Pizzini Prosecco from the King Valley in Australia. Easy!
Not Just Brie
Warm a round of Brie and ladle any hearty jam or chutney over it. Serve with crackers or pita points.
This one is always a party pleaser!
Bring back your youth with…
Popcorn Mixins’ (one is never too young to love popcorn)?
Pop Popcorn. Mix in a pinch of salt and chili powder, a tablespoon of lime zest and toss in a little cilantro for fun and color.
Garlic Rosemary Parmesan Popcorn
Pop Popcorn. Mix with melted butter, olive oil and sea salt, add garlic, fresh rosemary and freshly grated Parmesan cheese. Give it a toss. Warm and soothing.
Wasabi Ginger Popcorn
Pop Popcorn. Mix 3 tablespoons of oil, freeze-dried wasabi powder, ground ginger and salt.
Drizzle over warm popcorn and toss well to coat. For color, toss in some dried wasabi peas. Spicy!
The guests are arriving and you’re ready for fun and fall. Boom!
